Maggie's Old Sewing Machines

American Machines

Tabitha

Tabithas don’t come much prettier than this. Although the Tabatha, produced by the Manhattan Brass Company and sold in the UK and the USA, isn’t the rarest of machines, this one is an exception.
The majority of models were made from untreated pressed brass. Go up one step and you have models that were nickel plated. Jump another step and there were brass models with skirts. Jump all the way to the top and you have the nickel-plated version with the skirt that you see here. Certainly, the rarest and most desirable of the Tabatha machines. There’s a comprehensive and enthusiastic history here:

Please note that the machine has its original box but one side face of the lid has been replaced.
