I decided many years ago that if there was a fire and I could rescue just one machine, this would be in.
It’s a fabulous Coventry Machinist Company Starley flatbed from the 1860s, the only one I believe to be in existence. It’s mounted on a superb craftsman-made walnut treadle base with lid and has survived the past 160 years in near-unused, perfect, condition.
I’m really not going to risk shipping this machine, just too valuable and important to chance any damage. I understand this will not please non-English collectors but contact me as you may be able to use your own courier.
Although the freearm versions of this machine do turn up occasionally this, I believe, is the only known example of the flatbed. For more about Starley, check here: https://tinyurl.com/y7jhh63r
