Voted by many as the most attractive of all antique sewing machines, the Starley Queen of Hearts is the goal of many collectors.
The Internet is awash with information on Starley, as James was the inventor of the safety bicycle. It’s tougher to find references to the machines built by his Coventry Machinist Company. One very sad machine here: https://tinyurl.com/y9gn7xoh
Fortunately, our machine has survived in superb shape.
There were two models of the Queen of Hearts – one with Starley’s brass medallion in the centre of the bed and this one, with a picture of the future Queen Alexander, daughter-in-law of Queen Victoria, carrying patent dates of September 1875.
The machine is complete and ready to sew.
