Probably the best known of all the Newton Wilson machines, the Princess model featured fine embellishment on a casting showing the Prince of Wales feathers amongst the adornments.
Newton Wilson’s trademark, the three feathers of the Black prince, are cast into each corner of the base.
Understandably, the Princess of Wales was the most expensive of the Newton Wilson range, selling for £6 6 shillings in 1873, when it won the Grand medal of Medal at the Vienna show.
This machine is in remarkable condition, with far more of the gold decoration remaining than is usually found. It is, of course, totally complete with shuttle and bobbin.
