Back in the 1800s and before, the American Patent office demanded a working model to go with every patent application. This is the model that was probably submitted with the patents of either G.K. Proctor & F. D. Hammilton in 1871 or M.H. Knapp two years later. More research needed here with google and the Patent Office files.
It's a great model made from copper, steel. mahogony and brass ....And just 7.5 inches high. Superb craftmanship: check out those double-tapering pitman shafts....
