Tough to find information on the Novelty.
A listing in the Smithsonian gives the maker as C A French of Boston, Massachusetts, and a timeline beginning 1869.
The institution also holds an advertising leaflet which it estimates at 1870.
Certainly, it’s a novel machine, with the needle operating from underneath the stitch plate and the feed and the looper hook above it
Machine looks compete and certainly original.
One of the more interesting of the portable machines of the 1870s.
