Here’s a strange machine and it’s the only one of its kind that I’ve seen.
What we have is clearly the superstructure of a Guhl & Harbeck Original Express chain-stitch machine, but mounted on a intricate one-off base and marketed by sewing-machine pioneer and historian Newton Wilson. Name appears clearly on the stitch plate.
Actually, the tie-up is understandable for it was Newton Wilson who patented the internal-geared drive wheel used by Guhl & Harbeck and the result of a deal between the two manufacturers.
Superb condition and totally original and complete. A one-off to the best of my knowledge.
