American Machines

Other Machines

I’ve got to admit to a bit of a mental block regarding this machine. There are a couple of others known but the condition, here, of course, is exceptional.
It clearly dates from the mid-1970s but I’m at loss to its country of manufacture. Could well be American but I have a funny idea that it’s English, which is why it’s finished up on this page of the website.
The stitch plate certainly has a London address but that, of course, could simply be for the agent – in this case, Bacon.
And the plate also carries “Bacon’s patent” although I have not been able to pin this down.
Yet a little research shows that the machine was patented in the UK in April of 1873 by one F B Taylor.
Whatever, it’s certainly a fascinating piece of machinery.
