This beautiful Gresham machine was one of the first that I found in my early collecting days.
Although a few other Gresham models passed through my hands, this one I kept, partly because of the superbly made walnut box that it came in – please check out the pictures.
This machine will date from the early 1870s and was one of the first domestic models to feature an easily selected reverse mechanism.
Check out the heavy H-section top arm. On the later “Improved” model this was replaced with normal oval casting.
The machine is totally complete and totally original. There’s a similar machine in the British Science Museum – check the link here: https://tinyurl.com/yav2bg7j
