Other Machines

Just a little bit of mystery associated with this machine. The stitch plate claims it is of National manufacture but it’s absolutely identical to an Andrews machine discovered earlier which is now in the possession of a grandson of the original maker.
You can read the fascinating story of Andrews here: https://tinyurl.com/y7bcbbvd
The machine itself is quite interesting, owing a little of its design, perhaps, to Willcox & Gibbs, with a rocking arm and a connecting rod rather than a gear between the two shafts.
Machine is totally complete and totally original.
Often mistaken for a children's toy, but clearly intended as a serious portable sewing machine.
